Do you hear My voice?

Male Cardinal sitting in a Purple Leaf Plum

Winter finally gave way to spring, but I will say that it seems like we have had a bit of a hard time ushering in summer. My trees have been full of beautiful birds as they have budded out and bloomed this spring. Every morning I awake to the beautiful sounds of birds chirping.

However, given recent studies, bird numbers have been declining and skies are becoming silent as billions of North American birds have vanished. Waterfowl and raptor (my favorite) are making recoveries, bird populations have continued to decline across nearly all habitats.

Outside my window, the voices of the birds outside my window are very distinct. I can tell the Mama Wren apart as she scolds the cat walking through the backyard to the distinctly different sound of the Mama Robin who begins chirping quite loudly at daybreak to wake everyone up for no reason at all.

As I wake up and stumble toward the coffee pot, I cannot help but think that God speaks to us with a distinct voice just as the birds have distinct voices that I hear in the morning too. God's presence is everywhere around us and He speaks to us continuously through life in different and sometimes multiple ways including through sounds, thoughts, impressions, sight, and scripture. God communicates with us in many ways throughout the day, we must open our eyes and our ears and hear what He is communicating to us. If we seek Him and ask that He speaks to us to help us, we can learn to hear His voice and follow His direction for our lives.

God tells us in John 10:27-30 "My Sheep hear My Voice and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give unto them Eternal Life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. My Father, which gave them to Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand. I and My Father are One.

In other words, His sheep, referring to us, have the ability to hear God's voice and He knows who each one of us is and when we choose to follow Him, by accepting Him into our lives and asking Him to forgive our sins, He in turn gives us eternal life and we shall live forever with Him and no man can take that away from what our Heavenly Father gives to us, as we are under His protection. How absolutely wonderful is that to know!! He wants you to hear His voice too. He has put everything around you to let you know that He is there.

As you go throughout your day today, listen for His voice through sounds, thoughts, impressions, things you see, or scripture you read. If you sincerely seek Him today, you will find and hear Him. If you have not accepted Him into your life today, why don't you take a moment to commit yourself to Him and to ask His forgiveness. Begin living your life for Him and seeking His voice; He is there waiting.
